In this freshman seminar, we will talk about the decisions we make in our society--personal, medical, economic, and political--that are increasingly affected by biological and biomedical information. From bioengineered foods to fluoridated water to drug profiteering to genetic selection of children: biological science is everywhere, and the hard facts needed to make good decisions are not always easy to find! Students will consult multiple sources--the news media, the internet, the research literature--to help them reach their informed conclusions about how to use science wisely.
