This class will explore the co-existence of humans and the parasites that live on or in us as pathogens. We will consider the biology of parasitic infectious disease in the context of history, cultural tradition, and economic status. Throughout the class we will discuss current drug treatments and the state of vaccination programs. There will be a brief quiz at the beginning of each class to ensure that participants read the material that we are scheduled to discuss. Each participant will act as a discussion leader for a section of the class. Students who miss more than one class must have prior permission from Professor Morrissette or a note from a doctor, otherwise, they will not receive a passing grade for the class.
