"Blood vessels: highway to health and disease." This course will examine the role of blood vessels in human biology and why they are far more than inert tubes that merely carry blood around the body. Using as source material the current scientific literature, as well as topics in the news, we will explore how blood vessels develop, how they help to pattern and sustain developing organs, how they function in health and disease and how their growth can be stimulated to help heart attack victims or inhibited to help cancer sufferers.
